About Meadowbrook Counselling

At Meadowbrook Counselling, in Eastham, on the Wirral, we believe in a holistic approach to mental health and neurodiversity. We are committed to neuro-affirming practice for ADHD, autistic, AuDHD and late-diagnosed adults who want to understand themselves, reduce shame and feel more in control of life.

Maybe you have spent years being seen as capable, intelligent, organised or “fine,” while privately feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious or constantly behind. Maybe you are questioning whether you might be ADHD, autistic or AuDHD. Or, perhaps you already have a diagnosis, but you are still trying to make sense of what it means for your identity, your relationships, your work and your future.

At Meadowbrook Counselling, you do not have to mask, minimise or explain yourself from scratch. This is a calm, compassionate space where your experiences are taken seriously and where counselling is adapted around the way your mind actually works.

Meet Emma (she/her)

I’m Emma Bennett, a neurodiversity counselling specialist with professional training and lived experience of ADHD, autism and neurodivergent family life.

After receiving my own ADHD diagnosis in 2012, I understand something of the relief, confusion, grief and self-discovery that can come with recognising your neurodivergence later in life. I also understand how exhausting it can be to look capable on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood or as though you are constantly trying to keep up.

It's important that you feel comfortable during our first session. If you are attending in person, we will make any small changes needed to ensure the counselling space feels right for you. Maybe you prefer brighter or dimmer lighting, or perhaps looking at the clock would make you feel anxious. You are welcome to bring fidget toys or other comfort aids into the counselling space. I do ask that your phone is switched to silent and put away whilst the session is in progress to minimise distractions.

I use a blend of person-centred counselling, psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to tailor sessions to the individual. I am here to listen to you and for you to be heard, without judgment, and with empathy and understanding. We may talk about what has happened for you in the past or look at tools to make daily life a little easier, but each session is led by you. Counselling is different to coaching, I'm not here to give advice, but to help you to explore who you are, what is happening for you, and what that means for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at emma@meadowbrookcounselling.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Meadowbrook Counselling offers face-to-face or online individual counselling, to adults aged 18+, at their counselling suite in Eastham. Using an integrative model enables us to blend three different modalities to provide the best level of service to an individual. Meadowbrook Counselling is not a coaching or advice service.

A counselling session with Meadowbrook Counselling typically lasts for 50 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences. These sessions will usually take place once per week, on the same day, at the same time.

No two individuals are the same and counselling is no different. Most people find that they start to notice a difference after a few sessions. Typically sessions work in blocks of six weeks. At Meadowbrook Counselling there is the option for longer term counselling, ending your counselling sessions will always be discussed collaboratively.

During your first session with Meadowbrook Counselling, your therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to counselling. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process. There will be an initial assessment questionnaire to cover basic details, emergency contacts and GP details, plus an assessment to identify how your life is being impacted by low mood or anxiety symptoms. We will also go through a counselling agreement, also known as contracting, so you know what to expect from the counselling service.

An emergency contact and GP details are recorded in case of a mental or physical health emergency so that we can get you help and keep you safe. We do not routinely contact your GP or provide a report to them, and we would always try to discuss whether contact was necessary with you beforehand, if it is safe to do so. Meadowbrook Counselling is not a crisis service and contact between sessions will only take place for scheduling purposes.

Each 50 minute session, including the initial introduction session is £80. I also offer fortnightly 90 minute sessions at £140 which may suit individuals with a full schedule.

Concessionary rates for students or those in receipt of low income benefits may apply. These are currently set at £50 for 50 minute sessions, £90 for 90 minute sessions. Please enquire if you feel you may be eligible.

Payment is to be paid via bank transfer or standing order no less than 24 hours before each session. Appointment cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance, otherwise you will be expected to pay for the missed session.

Counselling students receive a reduced rate of £50 per session in order to gain their mandatory counselling requirement.

Press the button marked Meadowbrook Counselling on the intercom pad in order to gain entrance through the locked front door. The door will be unlocked, when the intercom is answered. Pull the door towards you and step inside, you will see a set of stairs to your right. Walk up the flight of stairs and the door to the waiting room is marked Meadowbrook Counselling on your right. Push open the door and take a seat, your counsellor will come to greet you at the appointment time. Please do not enter the waiting room earlier than 10 minutes before your appointment time to ensure confidentiality for other clients.

There is a lift that goes up to the first floor. Instead of going up the stairs walk to the end of the entrance hall and turn left through a door. Go down the hall and turn right. You will see the lift on your right hand side. Once you exit on the first floor you will turn left, walk down the corridor until the end and go through the door on your right. This will bring you out on the landing of the staircase and the waiting room door will be on your right by the window.

It would be unethical to carry out sessions with babies or children present as it is important for the client to be able to speak freely and openly in order to gain the best possible outcome. Please arrange adequate childcare before attending sessions, if applicable.

Yes, we can provide an online service if you don't live locally. This is through a website-based video service, designed for health professionals. You will receive a link to the waiting room via email 5 minutes before your appointment, and then you will be brought into the session at the appointment time. There's no app to download; it all works through a browser.

At this time, we are unable to provide counselling services to children and young adults under the age of 18 years. Consideration may be given to young people aged 17 following discussion with the counsellor.

No. As a counselling service we can help you to explore how you feel about a potential diagnosis and what that would mean for you but we are not qualified to provide a diagnosis.

Meadowbrook Counselling offers face-to-face counselling sessions in Eastham, Wirral, and online sessions to clients in England and Wales. Clients travel in from Eastham, Bromborough, Overpool, Little Sutton, Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, Upton, Chester, Deeside, Mold, Flint, Buckley, Frodsham, Willaston, Ness, Neston, Bebington, Brimstage, Heswall, Pensby, Irby, Greasby, Thurstaston, West Kirby, Frankby, Hoylake, Meols, Moreton, Liscard, Wallasey, Prenton, Birkenhead and the Liverpool Area.
